After packing the llamas. We descend from the always
cold Cocoyo to a warm bush thicket. From there we use a stone
paved forgotten Inca trail which is leading to the ancient
Inca ruin of Marcabepata and expect stunning discoveries there.
After one or two hours we keep on going following a tiny path
through high grass. |
|
| |
Along
a steep grass slope. We are moving forward along the border
between tropics and Andes. Sometimes we have cold wind from
above and at the next moment warm air from the forest is rising
up. Positioned in high grass we see the impenetrable tree crowns
deep down below and above the Andes highland. At the end of
a long walking day we set up our tents at a small platform high
above the forest. Exotic scenery and great views. |

It seems to be too unreal to be true but we are not
dreaming. We see the forest below and at the same instant
the ice capped Andes giants above. Maybe an Andean black bear
is roaring or a parrot is shouting. Today the path is becoming
difficult and we have to fix a rope for a forth coming. But
don`t worry we are experienced and know full well how to avoid
critical situations. A difficult way needs time and so we
move slowly but safely. |
|
| |
|
Walking
down to the dense vegatation into a tropic landscape. Late in
the afternoon we reach the wildwest goldmine Chussi which is
situated at a beautiful plateau high above the Tipuani river. |
|
| |
|
We
reach the Inca ruin Guinapi at noon. The mystic fortress from
bygone days is situated at the top of a flat mountain at 3.800
meter altitude. Due to the uprising tropical winds it is warm
and the panoramic views both down to the dense forests and up
to the Andes are breathtaking. What a place! Here we set up
our tents and stroll around between the ancient walls. |

Directly
behind the ruin we step steeply down. First using bear paths
to descend through high and thick grass we then pass through
thick bush. Then the forest comes thick like a wall. A mighty
impression. It is getting warmer and warmer and we are locked
in between thick bush and trees.Down to a small clearing where
we set up the tents. |

We descend through thick forest, in particular we
use our fixed ropes. In the afternoon we arrive at a river.
Here we set up our camp. Birds, wild sheep and all colours
of green. |

The whole day long we walk through the forest, sometimes
close by the riverside and sometimes way up. Huge tree ferns,
birds, flowers, humidity. We camp in the forest. At night
we watch an amazing spectacle: Thousands of giant glow worms
are shining with their lights. |

The forest is getting thinner and soon we find a
tiny path which leads to the Estancia Kattuaya. Kattuaya is
a typical self supplier farm in the vast outback Bolivias
only few tourists will experience it. Here we spend the night
in our tents. |

We follow a small path which is maintained by the
three inhabitants of Kattuaya down to a valley. At one moment
thick bush is making it impossible to see more than a distance
of 60 feet and at the next moment we step out to a clearing
which is providing most spectacular views down to tropical
valleys as far as the eyes are reaching. After a long walk
our small path is joining the wide way of the Camino del Oro
at La Hoya. Here we make camp. |

Following the Camino del Oro a full day we reach

Here we spend the night. |

We continue our trip by a four wheel drive jeep.
Passing various gold mines of remarkable size we reach the
miners capital of Guanay. Back to civilisation. We can watch
videos, eat in restaurants and sleep in a guest house. |
